Looking to have a day out with your family in Northumberland that won't cost the earth this summer?
The Alnwick Garden has announced that it has extended its Kids Go Free campaign is to continue throughout the summer holidays. Originally introduced last year as a thank you for supporting The Garden during lockdown, it enables four children aged 16 and under to visit free of charge with every paying adult.
And those at the Garden have chosen to extend the offer throughout this summer after witnessing the negative impact of continuous price increases of energy bills and fuel due to the cost of living crisis.
Mark Brassell, CEO of The Alnwick Garden, said: " It is vital for us to continue providing an excellent day out for families in the North East for an affordable price. Our visitors have enabled us to achieve so much in the last year and we want to make sure they don’t miss out on the incredibly exciting summer of Play and Imagination we have planned.
"This will see each day vary from water fights and giant lawn games all led by a brand-new Entertainments Team. We are elated to be in a position to give back at a time where we feel it is most needed."
The Garden, which recently won gold in three categories at the North East Tourism Awards, has recently released its summer events programme, which includes family friendly comedy shows and comedy workshops with Felt Nowt, and theatre performances of the Importance of Being Earnest and Twelfth Night among others. It will also host Mr Gay Europe in August, while the Queen's Baton Relay will pass through the garden tomorrow.
Ian McAllister, Head of Marketing at the Alnwick Garden, said: " We have gone above and beyond this year with our events schedule to make up for the time we lost over the last two years. Experimenting more with evening events, we have a wide range of opportunities including Outdoor Theatre, Live Comedy and a Regency Garden Party.
"We hope to have something that can suit everyone which will allow them to see The Garden like they’ve never seen it before."
The Kids Go Free offer has come too soon for children and their families to visit the world's largest play structure, which is due to open next spring. The first house in Lilidorei, a magical village of elves, dwarves and goblins, was recently installed at the garden.
Designed by the Duchess of Northumberland herself, it is hoped it will attract another 280,000 visitors to the area and create 50 direct jobs at the Alnwick Garden, along with hundreds more in the wider economy. For more information and tickets visit the Alnwick Garden website.
