Free coaching for NEET, JEE for Delhi government school children

NEW DELHI: Students of Delhi government schools are being offered free preparatory coaching for NEET and JEE. In the first phase, 6,000 selected students of classes XI and XII are being coached.

Delhi government had introduced the facility in a few schools as a pilot project, and following good results, the scheme has been expanded. Gradually, all science students will be covered. Currently, more than 30,000 students are enrolled in the science stream across all government schools.

“The Kejriwal government is committed to give flight to the dreams of children studying in Delhi’s government schools by providing world-class education to them,” said education minister Manish Sisodia.

The directorate of education has signed a memorandum of understanding with Avanti Fellows, an organisation that prepares students for the entrance examinations like JEE, NEET and paramedical ones. The students this year will be prepared through tests, and will be offered academic support and regular mentoring.

“Many children dream of getting higher education from the best medical or engineering institutions. But their parents can’t afford expensive coaching. Now this picture is set to change in Delhi,” said Sisodia.
