Free beer handed out to World Cup fans

World Cup fans stuck at work for England’s first match have today been treated to free pints thanks to a beer delivery service. VoucherCodes On Tap treated people to a complimentary pint of Wolfpack lager or alcohol-free beer as they watched England vs. Iran today.

The perfect storm of a cost-of-living crisis with a winter tournament and time zones playing havoc with match times, means pint sales across the tournament are set to fall 30% vs the 2018 World Cup. The research from VoucherCodes.co.uk’s World Cup 2022 Spending Report shows the total number of pints sold is expected to reach 65.3 million over the course of this year’s tournament – down 26.7 million compared to 2018.

Lager than life ex-England legend, Ray Parlour, who has teamed up with VoucherCodes for its On Tap service, comments: “Fans love to get behind the Three Lions and enjoy a drink or two while watching the game. But rising costs are taking their toll and this tournament is going to feel different to the rest, not least with our first game kicking off on a Monday lunchtime whilst many people are at work.

“So I think it’s a great idea that the VoucherCodes On Tap service is stopping by offices with free pints – let’s beer it for the Three Lions!”

Anita Naik, Savings Expert at VoucherCodes.co.uk, said: “We understand how important it is for fans to come together for big sporting moments like the World Cup, and the past year hasn’t been easy on consumers' wallets.

“As the UK’s most trusted voucher website, we are always looking for ways to help consumers save. We hope that by taking our special pub on the road, we can brighten up fans’ working days by offering a free pint so they can enjoy the World Cup without having to worry about the cost.”
