Free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater has ‘strong’ offer from the Lions

The Detroit Lions are still efforting to upgrade the No. 2 quarterback position. While many anticipate the Lions selecting a quarterback in the upcoming 2023 NFL draft, the team continues to try and work the free agent market as well.

Specifically, the Lions have reportedly made a “strong contract offer” to free agent Teddy Bridgewater.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported the info on Bridgewater on Saturday morning. He noted “several teams” had interest in the veteran QB but specifically cited the Lions.

As Fowler stated, Bridgewater has a connection to Lions head coach Dan Campbell. The 30-year-old quarterback played for the Saints in 2018-2019 while Campbell was the assistant head coach in New Orleans.

Bridgewater spent 2022 as the backup to Tua Tagovailoa in Miami, starting two games. The Dolphins were his fourth team in as many seasons, following stints in Carolina, Denver and New Orleans. Bridgewater began his career with the Minnesota Vikings as the No. 32 overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft.

Lions GM Brad Holmes knows he's 'got to do a better job' at getting a backup QB

The Lions are set at starter with Jared Goff, but the backup positions are up for grabs. Detroit recently brought back reserve Nate Sudfeld, who remains the only other QB on the 90-man roster.
