Ireland is set to be blasted with unusually high temperatures over the coming days.
Met Eireann has forecast highs of up to 17C on Thursday, with night-time temperatures in the double digits.
It said the “very mild” weather will continue through the weekend and into next week, in somewhat of a U-turn from the stormy conditions experienced lately.
The national forecaster explained that the freak November heat blast comes thanks to a “low pressure anomaly” that will make “high temperatures persist” into next week.
However, it’s not all good news because it will also bring higher-than-usual rainfall amounts and blustery conditions.
Giving its forecast for Thursday, Met Eireann said: “Windy throughout Thursday, especially across the west, with strong to near gale and gusty southwesterly winds. Cloudy outbreaks of rain and drizzle will become persistent and heavy in the west and northwest later. Very mild with highest temperatures of 14C to 17C.
“Cloudy overnight with outbreaks of rain, most persistent and heavy in Connacht and Ulster, it will be patchier elsewhere. Another very mild night with lowest temperatures of 11C to 14C degrees, in moderate to fresh south to southwest winds.”
Looking ahead to Friday, it continued: “Another mild, cloudy and windy day with outbreaks of rain, most persistent and heaviest over the western half of the country with localised flooding possible. Highest temperatures of 14C to 16C in mostly fresh and blustery southerly winds.
“Cloudy with outbreaks of rain continuing, however, they will generally become lighter and patchier as the night progresses. Remaining very mild with lowest temperatures of 11C to 14C however southerly winds will ease moderate to light.”
The mild, wet and breezy conditions are set to last into the weekend. The national forecaster said: “Cloudy on Saturday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the west during the morning. Turning drier with sunny spells away from the south coast during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 13C to 15C in moderate south easterly winds.
“Fairly cloudy on Sunday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 13C to 15C in moderate southeasterly winds.”
