Fraudster who sold Liverpool FC tickets that didn't exist back in court

A Liverpool FC ticket fraudster has been charged with failing to comply with the requirements of his suspended sentence.

Kieran Foynes, 27, of Jericho Close, Liverpool, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with failing to attend several probation hearings. A court heard that Foynes failed to appear at two probation appointments in a row, despite this being a requirement of his suspended sentence.

Foynes and his co-conspirator David Glaz found themselves in court in July 2021 after stealing a total of £2,040 in a ticket selling scheme. The pair set up a ‘sophisticated’ operation on Craigslist where they would sell Liverpool FC match tickets that didn’t exist.

They were both handed 12 weeks in custody suspended for 18 months and told to complete 180 hours of unpaid work. The judge said they must also complete up to 30 days of Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days and pay costs of £85.

Both were ordered to pay compensation to their victims amounting to the money they stole. Foynes and Glaz were both told to pay £1,020 each.

On Friday, Foynes was accused of failing to comply with the community requirements of a suspended sentence order, but he denied this charge.

Foynes allegedly missed appointments on October 8 and October 15 2022, but claimed he was ill and had emailed his probation officer ahead of the dates. Ms Louise Buress, defending, explained that her client sent an email to his probation officer on the day of the appointment, but the probation officer did not reply until days later.

She said she has seen this email. However, she said Foynes needed to attach a self certificate form explaining his illness, but had forgotten to attach it to the first email.

Ms Buress said Foynes has been suffering from panic attacks but does not currently have a GP and has been unable to find one "through no fault of his own". Probation services required him to send a GP note to corroborate his illness because he had already submitted the maximum of two self-service certificates.

A court heard that Foynes has previously breached the suspended sentence order, but it was upheld and simply extended until July 19, 2023.

A trial date has been set for March 23 this year at Wirral Magistrates Court.
