Frankie McAvoy named Hearts academy director as Joe Savage brings in right hand man

New Hearts academy director Frankie McAvoy can't wait to get started as he returns to Scotland after seven years.

The former Hamilton youth coach helped bring through the likes of James McCarthy, James McArthur and Lewis Ferguson at Accies.

He then moved on to Norwich and Preston North End with manager Alex Neil and Jambos sporting director Joe Savage.

And when previous academy director Roger Arnott moved on last month, Savage approached his old colleague with the opportunity.

McAvoy told Hearts TV: "It's exciting times, I took in the Hearts vs Celtic game last week and the derby, which whets the appetite.

"I know myself, the Old Firm are big but Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen are massive clubs.

"Hearts are riding high at the moment and I'd love to be part of them going forward.

"I'm coming in as academy director and the task is to oversee the academy. There's a great foundation there already.

"The training facility at the Oriam is magnificent, to be honest.

"The task is to try and promote within and get your own players coming through and into the first team. It's easy saying that but the difficult part is producing the players and having them ready for the manager to call upon."
