Frank Lampard reveals Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest selection dilemma amid Ben Chilwell concerns

Frank Lampard has admitted Lewis Hall is in contention to start for Chelsea against Nottingham Forest. The Blues will welcome Steve Cooper's side to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, with Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella expected to miss the clash.

The England international limped off in the second-half of Chelsea's win over Bournemouth last weekend after pulling his hamstring. Chilwell has been plagued with various injuries in recent seasons and it looks to be a 'tight call' as to whether he'll return before the end of the campaign.

Cucurella, on the other hand, picked up a knock to his quadricep in training and he too could miss the west Londoners' remaining games. So, with Lampard light on options at left-back, Chelsea stopped Hall from joining up with England’s Under-20 World Cup squad.

The 18-year-old midfielder has already featured five times for the Blues in the Premier League this season, primarily operating as a left wing-back. Now, he looks set for another opportunity to impress ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ahead of Chelsea's clash with Forest, Lampard claimed that Hall has impressed him in training. Lampard said: "Lewis has a chance. Tempted to put him on last week is the word I would say but I think with the nature of the game I felt the experience of Azpi in the game was more suitable at that point.

"I'll view this game on its merits as well but I think in terms of Lewis I've been really impressed with his training. He's a very good player, really talented player and I think if anything there is one thing he needs to come out of himself that bit more because he really should trust how good he is and feel at home with the group.

"I think he does feel that and games I've watched him afar - I didn't get to work with Lewis before as he was a bit younger - so I've been watching him from afar and been really impressed and he hasn't dampened that at all. He is in the running for the last four games to be involved."

On Chilwell's absence, the Chelsea caretaker boss said: "Not fit. No, we are hoping that Chilly may be fit possibly for the last game or two of the season but that is a tight call.

"It's a similar story with Mason Mount, maybe a little bit similar with Reece [James] but I feel that Reece might be slightly behind that. So we are obviously chasing it about now.

"Yeah I feel for him," Lampard added. "All the players want to play and represent the club and obviously we miss big players. Reece and Mason and Chilly are big England internationals, are successful with the club and I've not really had the benefit of them in the short period.

"Chilly I suppose a little bit but Mason hasn't really contributed at his top level where he has been fully fit but it is what it is."
