Frank Lampard explains why Everton signed Neal Maupay and gives training update

Frank Lampard has explained why Everton are so happy to bring Neal Maupay to the club after the forward completed his transfer from Brighton on Friday evening.

After a period of speculation around the move potentially taking place, the striker arrived at Finch Farm to close out the week - but wasn't registered in time to take on his former side Brentford on Saturday.

However, he does come in to strengthen a position that the Blues have been desperate to improve, especially considering the current injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Maupay has signed a three-year contract with the option of a further year, signing for what has officially been described as an undisclosed fee. The forward left Brighton having scored 26 goals in 84 Premier League starts.

Lampard confirmed that his sixth arrival of the summer was in training while his teammates take to the field this weekend, and reiterated why he was so happy to bring a player of Maupay's qualities to the club.

He said: "Yeah we're happy, we're very happy with Neal being here. He's a proven Premier League player, a goalscorer.

"He's a different style for us as a No.9 - we've got Dominic coming back in a week or so and Neal coming in with his own style. He's got a good attitude, he wants to win and score goals.

"He's training today, he couldn't make the game today, but he'll be available going forward."
