Actor Frank Grillo, known for his roles in Captain America and The Purge, is set to join the cast of the second season of James Gunn's Peacemaker series, which is part of the DC universe. Grillo will be lending his voice to the character of Rick Flag Sr., as announced by Gunn on Instagram. Rick Flag Sr. is a significant figure in the DC world, having led the first Suicide Squad, also known as Task Force X.
In the upcoming season of Peacemaker, Grillo will voice Rick Flag as an animated character within the Creature Commandos storyline. Gunn hinted at some unfinished business between Christopher Smith and Rick Sr. in his social media post revealing Grillo's involvement.
Frank Grillo is no stranger to action-packed projects in Hollywood, having appeared in films like Warrior and The Grey, as well as portraying the villain Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His diverse credits also include roles in Kingdom, Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, and the biopic Lamborghini.
The second season of Peacemaker, written and directed by Gunn, will once again feature John Cena in the lead role of Christopher Smith, aka The Peacemaker. Cena's character is characterized by his unwavering belief in achieving peace, even if it means resorting to extreme measures.
Gunn has penned all eight episodes of the upcoming season and will direct three of them, including the premiere episode. He and Peter Safran serve as executive producers on the series, with Cena taking on the role of co-executive producer.
Peacemaker, based on DC characters, is a production of Gunn's Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television. Grillo is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, 42West, and Paul Hastings.
