Les Bleus have booked their place in the World Cup quarter-finals, after a masterclass from Kylian Mbappe inspired them to a 3-1 victory over Poland in Doha on Sunday.
France were given a couple of early scares, but opened just before the break through Olivier Giroud – who became his country’s record goal scorer – before Mbappe took over in the second half. The 23-year-old netted two superb finishes. He looks a strong favourite to take Giroud’s goal record off him one day, and he could well grab the World Cup Golden Boot for this tournament.
Robert Lewandowski scored a late penalty for Poland as a consolation, but otherwise it was cruise control for the French, who set up a last eight clash against either England or Senegal.
