France says it wants to introduce a handling fee on low-value packages shipped by non-EU online retailers, in a move aimed at tackling the flood of cheap products from China.

The proposed fee – amounting to "a few euros" per parcel – would help cover the cost of inspecting the billions of small packages ordered each year by EU consumers from platforms such as Temu and Shein.
