Fourth set of twins born at Ulster Hospital as it marks the 75th anniversary of the NHS

It was a very busy day at the Ulster Hospital Maternity Ward as it marked the 75th anniversary of the NHS with four sets of twins being born.

The staff on the maternity ward had been hard at work throughout the day on Wednesday, July 5, welcoming three sets of twins into the world by 2pm.

Parents and staff were celebrating the remarkable day another set of twins were born on the ward.

Finley and Malachy Campbell were born shortly after 10.15pm much to the delight of their proud parents Ellen and James.

Ellen said: "“We are so emotional at the birth of our beautiful baby boys. It’s just been brilliant, every single part of it.”

Dad James Campbell added, “I am just so proud.”

Lead Midwife, Sarah McKevitt highlighted how unusual it is to have so many sets of twins born in the unit in just one day.

She said: “It has been an enormous privilege for myself and all the staff to support these four mums and the parents of these four sets of beautiful twins. It has been amazing to mark the NHS 75th birthday with these remarkable and wonderful births. We are just delighted that all the mums and babies are doing so well.”

Earlier in the day the first set of twins, two baby boys, were welcomed into the world shortly after midnight at 12.02am, much to the delight of their parents.

Mum Danielle Kelly said: “I might be biased, but my boys have been absolutely brilliant and so have the staff!”

They were quickly followed at 11.27 am by Baby Boy Morrison and Baby Girl Morrison, (first names to be decided!) with thrilled mum, Charlene Morrison saying: “The staff were absolutely amazing. They were all just brilliant!”

The Maternity Unit was certainly kept busy and a short time later, babies Freya and Hallie Garvey entered the world at 13:14 pm.

Mum Sherlyen Garvey added, “I am beyond delighted at the birth of my beautiful baby girls. The staff have been incredible and I can’t believe that so many other twins have been born at the Ulster Hospital today too, on the 75 th birthday of the NHS.”
