FOUR members of Uganda’s boxing team have reportedly gone missing in Scotland following the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games.
NBS Sports, a Ugandan sports website, have named the athletes as Angel Katushabe, Nuhu Batte, Ibrahim Khemis, and Emily Nakalema.
The Weekly Observer, a weekly Ugandan newspaper, also reported the disappearances – claiming to have spoken to officials at Uganda Bombers, the country's national boxing team.
It comes after the 2026 edition of the event, which saw 11 days of sporting action at venues across Glasgow, came to a close on Sunday night.
It wouldn't be the first time members of Team Uganda have disappeared, with at least six athletes refusing to return after the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018.
Two Ugandan rugby sevens players, Benon Kizza and Philip Pariyo, also went missing after Glasgow 2014.
They later claimed asylum, moved to Cardiff, and played for a local rugby team.
When asked if the reports are true, both the Home Office and the Scottish Government failed to deny them.
A Police Scotland spokesperson, meanwhile, said: “Police Scotland has received reports of several athletes who are unaccounted for.
“Inquiries are ongoing to assess the circumstances, and early engagement is taking place with the Home Office.”
Speaking to the Press Association on Monday, Commonwealth Games chief executive Phil Batty said: “We’ve welcomed nearly 3,000 athletes to the city from 74 nations.
“We want to deliver a safe and secure games, so we work really closely with Police Scotland, the Border Force, and UK visas and immigration to make sure everyone arrives and departs in line with regulation.”
Uganda's ministry of sport have also been approached for comment.
