Four things spotted in Liverpool training as Andy Robertson absent and youngsters involved

Liverpool are back in Champions League action on Tuesday night with the visit of Dutch side Ajax.

The weekend's Premier League games were postponed following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II last week. While the clash with Chelsea on Sunday remains a doubt, the midweek European action will go ahead as planned.

Manager Jurgen Klopp and defender Joel Matip conducted the media duties on Monday before the squad were out training in the afternoon. The players were put through their paces at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby as they look to bounce back from the defeat to Napoli last week. Here's a look at four things spotted from the session.

Robertson absent

As expected, left-back Andy Robertson wasn't in training as he's expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the month. Klopp confirmed in his press conference on Monday the defender had suffered an injury following the defeat to Napoli last week.

"(Robertson is) injured," the boss confirmed. "Robbo now is not 100%, it was very late, in the 93rd minute or whatever, he actually felt it the next day only, but yes he is out and he is out at least until after the international break."

Kostas Tsimikas, who was an unused substitute in Naples, will likely step up in his absence and the Greece international was among the squad training on Monday.

Youngsters involved

A handful of youngsters were out training at the AXA Training Centre, including Stefan Bajcetic. The 17-year-old had an impressive pre-season and has regularly been involved in the matchday squads so far amid the ongoing midfield injury crisis.

Isaac Mabaya and Luke Chambers were also involved, the latter likely called up due to Robertson's absence. Chambers, 18, has been named in just one matchday squad this season as he was an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw against Fulham on the first day of the Premier League campaign.

Carvalho returns

Fabio Carvalho is back in contention after missing last week's defeat to Napoli with a dead leg. The 20-year-old made his first start in the Merseyside derby at the start of the month, but was substituted at half-time after picking up the injury just before the break.

The youngster returned to training over the weekend and Klopp confirmed in his press conference he will be available for the visit of Ajax. The boss added: "Fabio trained yesterday normal and will be available.”

Arthur continues to settle in

Liverpool' s deadline day signing Arthur continues to build match fitness and settle into the squad. After making his debut in the defeat to Napoli last week, the Brazilian now has more training sessions in the bank as he gets up to speed.

The midfielder joined on a season-long loan from Serie A giants Juventus at the end of the last month to help ease injury concerns in that area of the pitch. With Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still sidelined, he's a much needed addition to the squad as the fixture schedule grows more intense.
