NARATHIWAT: Four rangers were injured in a bomb explosion in Si Sakhon district on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The incident occurred at about 6.20pm when eight rangers from Ranger Company 4912 were travelling in two pickups on the way back to their base after attending a sports event at Ban Tamong, the Moo 2 village in tambon Choeng Khiri.

Between Kadi and Laweng villages, a bomb that had been planted on the road was remotely activated.

Lt Supap Maneechai, 35, the company commander, sustained a deep cut in the right leg. Three other volunteer rangers - Nat Khongin, 35, Kamol Achasong, 29, and Pitsanu Paenkaew, 36 - sustained minor injuries. They were admitted to Si Sakhon Hospital.

An investigation was underway into the incident, which was initially believed to be a terrorist act by southern insurgents.
