BENGALURU: Four men were arrested for allegedly stealing mobile phones from Sunburn Holi Weekend, a DJ party organised on Phoenix Marketcity mall premises on Whitefield Main Road on March 19.
Saddam, 32, of Uttar Pradesh and Waseem Ahmed, 32, Mohammed Adeel, 33, and Irsad, 29, from Delhi, came to Bengaluru to target the revellers. Police have recovered 24 mobiles worth over Rs 10 lakh from them. A fifth member of the gang is at large.
Police said there were more than 2,500 people at the mega event.
At 6.30pm, accountant Pranav, 22, noticed his mobile phone had been snatched by a miscreant. He alerted police that miscreants have targeted several people at the event. Sub-inspector Sarojini Waghmore and team reached the spot and closed all the gates of the mall. During a search, police found four persons in possession of the stolen mobiles and nabbed them.
The suspects learnt online about the event and decided to attend it to steal phones, police said. Three of them flew down from Delhi to Bengaluru and two others took trains. They reached the mall by 5pm, split and mingled with the crowd. They picked up the mobile phones of revellers who were dancing.
They committed similar thefts in other cities and had come to Bengaluru for the first time. They are dropouts from schools and colleges, and wanted to make a quick buck to lead a lavish life, police added.
