The Basmanny District Court of Moscow has granted the investigators' motion for detention as a preventative measure for all four defendants in the Crocus City Hall attack case. The decision was made on Sunday, with all four men remanded into pre-trial detention until May 22, as confirmed by the Moscow City Court.
The defendants are facing charges of committing a terrorist act, a serious offense under the Russian Criminal Code that carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. The accused individuals, namely Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni, and Mukhammadsobir Faizov, are all from Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic, and were residing in Russia on either temporary or expired visas.
During the court proceedings, each of the four defendants was brought in individually, with three of them reportedly pleading guilty to all charges, according to state media news agency TASS. The court conducted closed hearings for each accused, with no members of the public allowed to attend, as reported by the court's press service.
The decision to remand the suspects into pre-trial detention underscores the seriousness of the charges they are facing and the gravity of the alleged terrorist act at Crocus City Hall. The case has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the accusations and the nationality of the accused individuals.
