Four firefighters taken to hospital after crash in Highlands while responding to call

FOUR firefighters have been taken to hospital following a crash between a fire engine and a van in the Highlands.

The fire engine from Inverness was heading to Skye “under blue light conditions” at around 7:40pm on Sunday when it collided with a van.

Emergency services were then called to the A890 at Attadale House, Strathcarron, following the collision.

Four firefighters were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Two were discharged after treatment and the van driver suffered minor injuries.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service area commander Michael Humphreys said: “The appliance was responding to a 999-call under blue light conditions when it collided with a commercial van.

“Our operations control immediately mobilised three further appliances and specialist resources to the scene

“Two firefighters remain in hospital. All staff are being fully supported.”

The road at the crash site was closed for around 12 hours as the police investigated.
