Four England prospects who could debut as part of new-look T20I side vs West Indies

With England 's five-match T20I series against the West Indies beginning just a week after the end of the Ashes, Eoin Morgan will be missing a number of regulars.

The likes of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood will all be missing, meaning a number of fringe players will be afforded opportunities.

There is a strong core of stars who featured at the T20 World Cup, including the three reserve players, and six new additions.

Of those new players, four of them could make their T20I debuts this series and make a case for their involvement in the next T20 World Cup.

Phil Salt

Salt made his England debut last year as part of the hastily-assembled ODI side which beat Pakistan after a Covid outbreak hit the main squad.

In three games, he scored 104 runs at an average of 34.66, including an impressive 60 in the second ODI at Lord's.

A hard-hitting opener who was born in Wales, raised in Barbados and broke through at Sussex, Salt strikes at over 150 in T20 cricket and will rival Tom Banton for the chance to open alongside Jason Roy.

There is a dearth of riches at the top of the order in white-ball cricket for England, but Salt could benefit from Buttler and Bairstow involvement in the Ashes and make a real impression ahead of this year's T20 World Cup.

George Garton

One of four left-arm seamers in this squad, Garton has been on England's radar for a number of years, having been drafted into their squad as cover for a warm-up game ahead of the 2017-18 Ashes.

Capable of providing genuine pace and rapidly improving with the bat, Garton enjoyed an excellent 2021 despite missing out on the opportunity to make his international debut due to Covid.

The 24-year-old took ten wickets for Southern Brave as they won the inaugural edition of The Hundred and earned himself an opportunity to rub shoulders with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in the IPL at Royal Challengers Bangalore as a replacement player.

With 55 T20 wickets at an average of 22.72 and a strike-rate of 132.57 with the bat, Garton has plenty to offer this England side and could one day form an all-Sussex seam attack with Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer and Tymal Mills.

Harry Brook

Drafted into the squad after Sam Billings was called into England's Ashes side for the final Test in Hobart, Brook enjoyed a breakout summer in 2021.

Named PCA Young Player of the Year after scoring 486 runs at an average of 69.42 in the T20 Blast and 189 runs at 47.25 in The Hundred, Brook has an opportunity to make the step up to international cricket.

Namechecked by Buttler as a player with "a really exciting future", Brook has a career record in T20s of 1,275 runs at an average of 33.55 and a strike rate of 143.58.

The 22-year-old did struggle in a recent Big Bash stint with the Hobart Hurricanes but has the talent to make an impact in the Caribbean.

David Payne

Although he may not have the same franchise pedigree as some of his teammates, Payne has been a consistent wicket-taker in the T20 Blast, picking up 127 scalps at an average of 22.59 since making his debut in 2010.

The left-arm seamer was part of the England ODI squad that faced Pakistan last summer and, although he did not feature, could make his debut against the West Indies.

A powerplay specialist, Morgan could turn to Payne to provide the same threat with the new ball that Woakes offered in the T20 World Cup.

At the age of 30, Payne knows his game inside out and will be hoping to find some swing in the Caribbean.
