Out of a 295 care homes in Liverpool only four have been rated ‘outstanding’ by inspectors.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated the four care homes outstanding following an inspection looking into five different areas. This includes safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and how well-led the site is.
Mayfield Court based in Knotty Ash and Avondale Mental Healthcare Centre in Prescot are the area's two top-rated care homes. Both received the highest rating in the effective, caring and well-led categories.

The four highly rated care homes are:
Mayfield Court
The home was rated ‘outstanding’ for the effective, caring and well-led categories. They received a ‘good’ rating for safety and responsiveness. The home can provide care for 35 people.
They provide services for adults over 65 with learning disabilities and mental health conditions. People living at the home said “It’s the best place to live” and “I love it. I’ve got my freedom, space, independence but can be around everyone. The best of both worlds. 24-hour care for me but I can be left alone [if I want].”
Relatives said: “Mayfield is second to none” and “It’s her home, she is comfortable here.” The CQC report said 'staff reassured people throughout the pandemic and provided them with the support they needed to maintain regular contact with their family and friends through the use technology'. This is based in Knotty Ash on Youens Way.
Sefton New Directions Limited
The care home was rated ‘outstanding’ for responsiveness and caring by the CQC. The home was praised for its attentiveness and personalisation of care for patients.
The report said ‘care and support were delivered on a very individual basis.’ It also said ‘staff knew people extremely well care, support and activities were planned around individual likes and dislikes.’
Relatives said the standard of care their loved ones received at Hudson Road was exceptional. The home had improved in responsiveness since the last inspection. It improved from 'good' to 'outstanding'. The home is based on Hudson Road.
Avondale Mental Healthcare Centre
The care home is one of the top two rated care homes in the county. It was rated 'outstanding' in the effective, caring and well-led categories.
It was praised on its effort to ensure staff and other professionals, who were not exempt, were vaccinated against Covid-19. The home provides long-term residential care for up to 54 people.
Residents at the home said they felt listened to and respected by staff and could talk to them about any concerns they had. Residents said their lives had got better because of the support staff gave them. It is located on Sandstone Drive in Prescot.
Springfield Court Nursing Home
The nursing home was rated 'outstanding' for responsiveness and how well-led it is. The home was praised for its dedicated management team. The registered manager has been there for 15 years and the clinical lead has been there for 12 years.
In 2016 the home was rated 'good' and improved to 'outstanding' in 2019. Staff said they thoroughly enjoyed their work and felt included and valued. Patients also praised the levels of staffing. The residents explained there is always someone to help.
The home is located on Springfield Road, Ormskirk. It has was recognised nationally for its services and received the ISO 9001 award for quality management.
