Ken Block, the legendary rally driver, recently passed away at age 55 in a snowmobile accident.
Block’s team, The Hoonigans, announced his death Tuesday on Instagram.
“It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today,” read the post. “Ken was a visionary, a pioneer, and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed.”
Block was no stranger to the video game world, making appearances in numerous high-profile racing titles – including Forza Horizon, Forza Motorsport, Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, and Dirt just to name a few.
Developers from several of these games took to social media, honoring Block’s memory with various messages.
“[Ken Block] from [The Hoonigans] had a huge influence on the motorsports community around the world,” Forza Motorsport said on Twitter. “Our deepest condolences to his family. You will be missed, Ken.”
“Devastating news about the loss of [Ken Block] – he was a legend in Motorsports and will be dearly missed,” Forza Horizon said on Twitter. “Our deepest condolences to his family and the team at [The Hoonigans].”
“RIP Ken Block,” Gran Turismo said on Twitter. “A legend lost too soon.”

“Rest In Peace, Legend. You truly inspired millions of us, and we’re forever grateful,” Need for Speed said on Twitter. “We love you, Ken.”
Block was perhaps best known for gymkhana-style races and also took part in skateboarding and snowboarding competitions.
