A new Fortnite update went live yesterday outside of the regular schedule. Epic Games hasn't released patch notes for this update so what is it all about?
Fortnite typically gets an update every other Tuesday, and as per the schedule, nothing was expected this week. Epic Games didn't share any plans for downtime or updates, like it typically does before it rolls out a patch ,and yet players were faced with the horrifying surprise of a 2GB update out of the blue yesterday. Epic Games did eventually get out there and announce the update on Twitter with the famous wording "to address stability", which tells us nothing
This update only affected players on PlayStation, Xbox, Amazon Luna, and Nintendo Switch, with PC players able to continue to play freely without having to download anything. This is very likely to be the last update before the launch of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 on Friday, June 9. However if there is another patch beforehand, expect it to be a minor one like this latest update.
The latest issue to be addressed in Fortnite was a Kinetic Blade exploit resulting in the complete removal of the weapon from the game. Epic Games had promised that it would either replace or auto-complete any quests requiring the Kinetic Blade because of this, which seems to be one of the main reasons for this 2GB patch.
New Fortnite update patch notes
Epic Games doesn't typically release patch notes alongside small Fortnite updates like this, instead opting to go with incredibly vague wording in its tweets. However, it did post some follow up Tweets after announcing the update which gives us some insight into what was affected by this patch. These fixes are as follows:
We fixed a bug where the Burn Bright Emote did not reflect the player's current highest Rank. You can now Burn Bright by showing off your current Rank as expected.
We are vaulting the Kinetic Blade for all Battle Royale playlists for the remainder of Chapter 4 Season 2. We've replaced any weekly Kinetic Blade-related Quests with alternatives and will be autocompleting the related Syndicate Quest.
We've autocompleted the Syndicate Quest to 'Eliminate Opponents with the Kinetic Blade' and added its progress to This Season's Bonus Goals.
And that's it! Nothing major in this patch I'm afraid. Again, the next major Fortnite patch will most likely arrive on June 9, 2023 alongside the launch of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3, but until then I would only expect minor updates like this, if we even get another one before the end of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2.
