One of Fortnite's new weekly trial quests tasks players with recovering an item from a Combat Cache, we've prepared a handy guide to help you along the way
While Fortnite's weekly quests may be all about the Fortnite x Spider-Verse crossover this week, giving players tasks surrounding the returning Web Shooter Mythic, the Trials quests are business as usual. One of this week's trials tasks players with collecting an item from a Fortnite Combat Cache which have been this season's replacement for the Supply Drop, making it more of a challenge for players to get great loot.
This specific quest is a part of the "Strike A Claim" trials questline so you'll have to complete a few before this specific quest will pop up for you. These are as follows:
- Stage 1 – Deal 500 damage while claiming a Capture Point
Stage 2 – Hold six Chug Splash or six Slap Juice at one time
Stage 3 – Drive a vehicle to an unclaimed Capture Point
After completing those three you should have access to Stage 4 which has you to collect an item from a Combat Cache, with the fifth and final stage challenging you to claim two Capture Points in a single match.
How to collect an item from a Combat Cache in Fortnite
So your first order of business is actually finding a Combat Cache, which comes with its own set of pros and cons. Fortnite Combat Cache's spawn once per match after the second Storm Eye Shrinking phase of a match ends. However, the location in which they spawn is completely random, with no way to predict where it will turn up. Luckily the game does alert you with a map ping when it does show up.
You'll need to make your way over to it and interact with it to begin the opening process, with the loot inside getting worse the longer it takes for someone to open it, starting at Legendary before going down to Epic and so on. Just keep an eye out for enemies around the area as these caches can serve as good bait for players looking to get some sniper kills.
Once you begin to open it, the game alerts every single player still left in the game that someone is trying to open the Combat Cache, thus putting a target on your back right away. You'll need to survive until the progress bar fills all the way up before it opens up to reveal the spoils within. After that you'll just need to walk up, grab one of the items and be on your merry way. If someone gets to it before you, you may still be able to complete the quest by finding the cache and picking up an item, but it's just easier to do it yourself.
