The next season of Fortnite is at hand. It has been teased in-game with, well, a giant hand sticking out of the ground.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 begins this very week, and we already know plenty about what flavour this next era of Fortnite will have, and the unlocks it will feature.
If you’ve been keeping a remotely close eye on Fortnite you will have noticed the recent teaser for Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2. A mini event kicked off when a giant stone hand appeared out of the ground in the Ruined Reels area, with a Pandora’s Box chest hanging off it.
The chest opened after around 24 hours, having soaked up more than five trillion damage points collectively across the Fortnite community.
A column of spectral flame now spews out of the chest. And it has unlocked the ability to build structures in the game’s NoBuild mode.
However, rather than being able to harvest building materials from just about anywhere, players have to look at these resources from the bodies of fallen enemies.
Here’s what else we know about the upcoming season.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 release date
Season 2 of Fortnite’s Chapter 5 is expected to kick off properly on Friday, March 8, following the end of the first season at 5am, UK time.
These season ends are typically followed by a few hours of downtime as the next era of Fortnite is rolled out.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 theme
The second season of Fortnite Chapter 5 has a Greek mythology theme. This has seeped into all the game’s teasers.
Fortnite’s official X account, for example, tweeted an image of a ghostly figure wielding what looks like a lightning bolt, referencing the Ancient Greek god of the sky Zeus.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 battle pass
We don’t yet know the full scope of the Season 2 battle pass, but we have seen enough to know some of the tastiest treats it is likely to contain.
Fortnite leaker Hypex posted a list of skins linked to this season. They include many of the key characters from Greek mythology, and artwork for most of these characters has also leaked.
Here’s the full list
- Aphrodite
- Ares
- `Artemis
- Cerberus
- Hades
- Medusa
- Odyssey
- Poseidon
- Zeus
As you may be able to tell from a glance, the image does not appear to contain any Zeus or Poseidon skin previews. There are also two takes on the Medusa character in the teaser pic, suggesting we may be in for a lot of skins this season.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 rumours
Epic Games co-founder Mark Rein routinely teases new instalments of Fortnite with a single word. “Wings” is this season’s word.
Some believe this means the season could introduce rideable animals. The griffin would be the most on-theme animal for the job.
Rumours also indicate video game icon Kratos may be added to the character roster this season. It would be a missed opportunity if he did not appear, given God of War has an almost 20-year pedigree as gaming’s top Greek myths series.
These reports indicate we’ll see the “young” Kratos of 2005-2015, rather than the older version seen in the 2018 instalment and 2022’s God of War Ragnarok.
