Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 start date delayed – are we finally getting the next live event?

If you're wondering when the current season of Fortnite will end, we now have official confirmation from Epic Games who says that it's wrapping up "a few days later" than planned.

We're seven weeks into Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 which means we're around the halfway mark. Fortnite seasons typically last for 10 to 12 weeks and the Battle Pass end date is usually a good indicator of when the season as a whole will end. This season's Battle Pass wraps up on June 2, but Epic has confirmed that the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 end date will actually be delayed, and fall on Friday, June 9.

The details were shared in a tweet with the exact time that this season of Fortnite ends pegged for 7am BST / 2am EDT on Friday, June 9 which is 11pm PDT on Thursday, June 8. Epic also clarified that this date is actually later than initially planned, taking the length of the current season of Fortnite to 13 weeks.

If Epic sticks to its Tuesday updates, the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 start date would fall on Tuesday, June 13. But new Fortnite seasons tend to kick off a day after the old season ends – Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 came to a close on Wednesday, March 8, for example, which was a few days earlier than expected, and the current season started on Friday, March 10.

Epic also doesn't shy away from weekend updates, so realistically, the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 start date is likely to be Sunday, June 11.

Worth the wait?

The end of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 was woefully bereft of a live event, and Epic hasn't elaborated on the reason for the current season's extension. It could be that the developer is teeing up an epic live event to cap off Chapter 4 Season 2. Notice of Fortnite live events are usually shared a few days before they kick off, but the start of the current season didn't deliver.

It certainly feels like we're overdue one! The last Fortnite live event – called Fracture – was back in December 2022 and closed out Chapter 3. Players were tasked with restoring the Zero Point, and it was quite a chaotic affair. The live events are less consistent than they were when they were first introduced, but the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 delay bodes well for those of you craving another one.

Regardless of whether or not we actually get a live event, the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 delay will give you the chance to mop up any outstanding quests and unlock anything you've been grinding towards, so it's not all bad news. And if we have another epic live event to dive into, it'll be worth the wait.
