Former US international questions Tyler Adams fatigue after Leeds United man's World Cup error

Former USWNT international Carli Lloyd has questioned how Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams could be fatigued following the USA's 3-1 World Cup knockout loss to the Netherlands.

The Netherlands opened the scoring on 10 minutes through Memphis Depay, who finished off a wonderful team move to give Louis van Gaal's side the lead.

Adams, who had been having a stellar tournament up until the Round of 16 clash, failed to track the run of the Barcelona forward, who found himself in acres of space to connect with Denzel Dumfries cutback.

Ultimately, the USA looked leggy against the Netherlands in a game they lost comfortably. They were unable to match the intensity they played with during the World Cup group stages, of which Adams was a key contributor.

However, while some could have sympathy for the Whites midfielder given the masses of running he did for the USA at the World Cup, others, like Lloyd were not sold.

Taking to Twitter to reply to someone who asked whether Adams could have been fatigued against the Netherlands, Lloyd replied: "He’s been a machine. Covering so much ground but you shouldn’t be that fatigued at age 23. If your training is 5x more than what games entail you can play through a 7 game tourney and still have more left in the tank. The deeper you go,the more mental it becomes to power through."
