Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
Former chief defends transfer decision
Former Nottingham Forest sporting director Filippo Giraldi has defended the club’s January business.
The 49-year-old was sacked by the Reds in April following the 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa, the result coming a few days after losing to relegation rivals Leeds and saw Steve Cooper ’s men drop back into the relegation zone for the first time since January.
Giraldi was not responsible for the 22 players brought in during last summer’s transfer window but oversaw seven new additions in the mid-term window - Andre Ayew (free agent), Keylor Navas (Paris Saint-Germain), Felipe (Atletico Madrid), Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa (Palmeiras), Chris Wood and Jonjo Shelvey (Newcastle).

Giraldi on Forest sacking
Former Nottingham Forest sporting director Filippo Giraldi has spoken about the club’s decision to sack him.
The 49-year-old admits to harbouring a number of mixed emotions after the Reds dispensed with his services, saying he’s “angry” and unable to understand why the decision was made.

Forest ‘looking at’ free agent
Nottingham Forest are reportedly showing an interest in signing left-back Aaron Martin this summer, amid competition for Carlos Augusto.
Forest are said to be fighting competition from the likes of Italian giants and Champions League finalists Inter Milan for Augusto this summer. Steve Cooper is looking to strengthen his left-back options amid Renan Lodi’s return to parent club Atletico Madrid.
It now seems that the Reds could be assessing other options in the position. According to the Daily Mail , Forest are ‘looking at’ Martin, who is available on a free transfer when his contract with Bundesliga side Mainz expires in the summer.
Palace Cooper stance outlined
Nottingham Forest’s Premier League rivals Crystal Palace will not be looking to appoint Steve Cooper as their new manager, it has been reported.
The Eagles are on the lookout for a new manager ahead of the new season, with the club yet to make a decision over the future of interim boss Roy Hodgson. The former England manager led the club to Premier League safety after being appointed towards the end of the season.
Reports back in March when Hodgson was initially appointed on an interim basis suggested that Cooper could be an option for the club in the summer. The Welshman has impressed with the job he has done at the City Ground , leading Forest from the bottom of the Championship to Premier League survival.
