Former Texas Congresswoman Kay Granger Battling Dementia Issues

Former House Appropriations Committee Chair Kay Granger, who retired from Congress last year, is currently dealing with health issues related to dementia. Her son, Brandon Granger, revealed that she is residing in an independent living facility in Fort Worth, Texas. Contrary to some reports, she is not in a memory care facility.

Brandon Granger emphasized that there is no shame in choosing to live in a community with peers of the same age. He expressed gratitude for the support received from family, friends, and constituents during this challenging time.

In a statement released by her office, Kay Granger acknowledged the progression of her health challenges since September, making travel to Washington difficult. Despite her absence from voting in the final weeks of the 118th Congress, her staff continued to provide exceptional constituent services.

Having last voted in July and announced her retirement from politics, Granger's absence from recent legislative activities has been noted. However, she made a brief return to Washington in mid-November for an official portrait unveiling, where she was honored for her service as the first Republican woman to represent Texas in the House.

Granger's decision not to seek reelection was motivated by her belief in the next generation of leaders to represent her district effectively. Her successor, Republican Craig Goldman, has taken over her role in the 12th Congressional District, which includes Fort Worth.
