Former Sunderland youngster Patrick Almond completed 90 minutes for Northern Premier League East Division side Shildon, five months after being involved in a car accident. The defender was a rear seat passenger in an incident in Manchester in June, needing treatment for head injuries sustained in the collision.
Two team-mates stayed with Almond at the scene with Almond until the ambulance arrived. Now, six months since he last played and five months on from the accident, the defender played 90 minutes against Grimsby Borough.
Almond spent the second-half of last season on loan with National League North side Blyth Spartans and played his part in keeping the club in the division.

Providing an update on Twitter, Kevin Almond, Patrick's dad, said: “Things you love to see on a Saturday The big lad getting 90 mins in the tank, for Shildon. 6 months since last played.
"5 months since the accident. 4 1/2 months of non-stop training. Well done son, credit to yourself and never let it get you down.”
