Former Sunderland star Seb Larsson has announced he will hang up his boots next month. The Sweden international spent six years on Wearside and made more than 200 appearances, scoring 14 goals, in all competitions for the Black Cats before leaving for Hull City in 2017 and spending one season on Humberside.
The 37-year-old has spent the last four years back in his homeland with AIK, winning the Swedish Allsvenskan title in 2018, but has now confirmed that he will retire from professional football when the current season in Sweden ends in November. "Football has given me so much and has been a big part of my whole life," Larsson told AIK's official website.
"After a long process, I have now made the decision to end my active career after this season. My time at AIK has been absolutely fantastic.

"Moving home to Sweden and getting the opportunity to represent this beautiful club for four and a half years is one of the best decisions I've made."
Larsson began his career in Sweden with IFK Eskilstuna before moving to England at the age of 16 to join Arsene Wenger's Arsenal in 2001. He made just three appearances for the Gunners, and later joined Birmingham City - then managed by future Sunderland boss Steve Bruce - on loan for a season before making a permanent move to St Andrew's in 2007.
After four years with the Blues which saw him win a League Cup winners' medal, Larsson was reunited with Bruce at Sunderland in 2011. Larsson was capped 133 times for his country, and scored 10 goals, before retiring from international football following the Euro 2020 tournament. He also represented Sweden in Euro 2008 and 2012, and in the World Cup in 2018.
