One former Michigan State player has made it known that he has extremely high expectations for year one under Jonathan Smith.
Matt Seybert — who was a tight end at Michigan State from 2017 – 2019 — believes Michigan State should be in the College Football Playoff this year. He posted on X that he likes the combination of the new coaching staff and transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles, and that’ll drive the Spartans into the new 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024.

I feel like Michigan State is a PLAYOFF TEAM behind this coaching staff X Aidan Chiles. We are in for a pleasant surprise this fall https://t.co/i23mOJnY1p

For perspective, Michigan State has a win total over-under that ranges from 4.5 to 5.5 depending on the sports book. So not many out there have the same high expectations for Michigan State as Seybert.
