The professional career of former Socceroos goalkeeper Brad Jones has come to a low-key end after the 41-year-old announced his retirement on Wednesday.
Jones, a six-cap Socceroo who also featured for EPL giants Liverpool, joined Perth Glory ahead of the 2021/22 A-League Men season.
But his stint in purple lasted just five games, with a serious knee injury spelling the end of his career.
Jones' last match was on March 19 last year in a 4-1 loss to Brisbane Roar.
That match also marked the end of then-coach Richard Garcia's stint in charge.
Jones, who was part of the Socceroos' squad at the 2018 World Cup, won three trophies apiece in England, Holland and Saudi Arabia while featuring for the likes of Liverpool, Feyenoord, Middlesbrough and Al-Nassr.
"I feel proud to have achieved close to every dream I had as a young boy," Jones said in a statement.
"From getting to play in the Premier League, to joining the team I supported as a boy in Liverpool, going to a World Cup, playing in the Champions League; it's all been incredible.
"The path came with plenty of highs and lows but if someone told me as an eight-year-old growing up in Huntingdale that I would have the career I did, I would've taken that in a heartbeat."
Jones joined Liverpool in 2010 and made his league debut against Blackburn in 2012 after goalkeeper Doni was red carded.
In a fairytale start to his EPL career, Jones saved the ensuing penalty as Liverpool went on to post a 3-2 win.
After saving the penalty, Jones pointed to the sky in tribute to his son Luca, who passed away from leukaemia in November 2011.
Jones was released by Liverpool in 2015 and spent time in the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia before joining his hometown club Perth Glory in 2021.
Glory chief executive Anthony Radich congratulated Jones on his 22-year professional career.
"Brad's football journey has been a remarkable one and his achievements speak for themselves," Radich said.
"It is a real shame that we did not get to see the best of him representing his hometown club, but he has been a fantastic ambassador for Australian football over the years."
