Former SNP treasurer Colin Beattie to avoid Holyrood due to illness

THE SNP’s former treasurer who was arrested in the police investigation into the party’s finances will work from home instead of Holyrood due to illness.

It is understood Colin Beattie – who was released without charge – will work from his home in Dalkeith, Midlothian instead of travelling to the Scottish Parliament.

The Midlothian North and Musselburgh MSP quit as party treasurer following his arrest last month.

It came as part of a police inquiry into the SNP’s finances, specifically how around £600,000 earmarked for independence campaigning was spent.

His arrest came after Nicola Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrell was arrested at the couple’s home in Uddingston, outside Glasgow at the start of April.

The former SNP chief executive was also released pending further investigation.
