A former retailer worker has shared a 'really gross' reason why you should always wash new clothes are buying them. She says that the items may not be 'as clean as you think."
When you're excited about the latest item of clothing you have bought, you might not want to wait for it to be washed and dried before you wear it. Many people will purchase the item and wear it the very same day.
But Dana, who formerly worked at a clothing store, has strongly advised against doing so. Taking to social media, she recalled how she and her colleagues "weren't allowed to wear clothes from other brands or other stores" and how her manager preferred staff to wear clothes from the store's current collection.

This was a way of promoting the stores latest stock, but employees did not really shop at the store, or very few would have the latest stock. So, most of the time, they would choose some clothing that wasn't sold yet before removing the tag and wearing it for their shift.
Dana goes by the username of @octagonglasses TikTok and recently gave users an in-sight into the behind-the-scenes of retail, the Mirror reports. She revealed: "We would work all day. We were sweating. And at the end of our shift, we would take off the clothes, put the tags back on, and then put them back into the store.
“I always thought this was really gross. I did not know that some [other] stores also did this. So, I guess this is my PSA to please wash your clothes after buying them. Because they are not as clean as you think.”
Dana did not reveal what store she was employed at, but a number of other retail workers have also come forward with similar stories. One person wrote: "The store I worked for steamed the clothes before putting them back. Which is nice. I did tell the customer once.. wasn't supposed to do that.. whoops."
Another added: "Customer asked for the size I was wearing. I 'checked' in the back just to change in a bigger size for me so she could try mine without her knowing."
However, this was news to some people who had been unaware of the situation. One person said: "I always wash them because many people will have tried them on. But this is also now a new factor." Another wrote: "Imagine that where those clothes being made - they might do the same, or make it without washing their hands after using the toilet. Always wash after buying."
