Former Rangers striker makes bold 'I'm better' claim about Carlos Tevez

Former Rangers striker Jermain Defoe showed he still had plenty of talent during his time at Ibrox.

The forward joined the club back in 2019 at the ripe old age of 36 but scored some important goals during his 18-month stint.

Now 43, Defoe has been looking back on his career and making comparisons to some of the elite strikers who have passed through the Premier League. And the retired England international believes he was a better finisher than most.

Ex-Manchester United and City forward Carlos Tevez had Defoe in the midst of a debate regarding pure finishing talent with football-daft podcasters.

And when asked about being a better finisher than the Argentine, Defoe backed himself. “Yeah, I think I’m a better finisher than Tevez," he said. But that triggered a response from one panelist who replied: "Nah. Respectfully, you’re not. Not Tevez.

“Respectfully, you’re a legend but Tevez?! Tevez was world class.”

Defoe chimed back in to keep the context, adding: “My man, we’re talking about finishing," to which his fellow professional Troy Deeney joined the conversation and added: "He’s a better all-round player but finishing?”

Defoe replied: “Troy, you know a better footballer. There’s not many better footballers than Tevez. But if it’s finishing…”

Deeney then held his hands up, adding: “I agree with you.”
