Former Rangers striker continues career revival after big move as he leaves Diego Simeone gutted

Umar Sadiq has continued to show he is a changed man from the one that left Rangers over three years ago with a fantastic start to life at Real Sociedad.

The Nigerian international had hit form for Almeria and it's won him a move to be Alexander Isak's replacement at the La Liga club. Rangers' former Roma loanee came off the bench against Atletico Madrid and netted within nine minutes of coming on in a 1-1 draw with Diego Simeone's side.

He said of his move to the club in a Europa League section with Manchester United, Neil Lennon's Omonia Nicosia and FC Sheriff this season: "I chose la Real because it is one of the most important teams in Spain. It is a step forward and I am very grateful that they have signed me. I am very happy. Real was the best option, I could not say no".

Sadiq joined Roma in 2016 but had mixed loan spells at Bologna, Torino, NAC Breda, Rangers and Perugia before a permanent transfer to Partizan Belgrade, where he scored 23 goals in 52 games.

Two exceptional seasons with Almeria after a 2020 move, scoring 41 goals, alerted clubs across Europe but he opted to remain in Spain for a reported financial package of €25m.

It's a far cry for when he moved to Rangers under Steven Gerrard in 2018, playing four times without scoring and leaving the following January.
