Former Rangers star is Motherwell's new goalkeeping coach

Motherwell have confirmed the appointment of Neil Alexander as their new goalkeeping coach.

The former Rangers star and ex-Scotland international adds a wealth of experience to the Steelmen and he replaces another former Ger in Andy Dibble, who left the role last month after Graham Alexander's departure as manager.

Alexander, 44, told the Motherwell website: "I’m really happy to be joining Motherwell.

“It’s a great club and it is an exciting time to be working here with Steven and the rest of the coaching staff."

During his 26-year career, Alexander made 465 club appearances for clubs including Rangers, Livingston, Cardiff City, Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace. He joins having coached at Dunfermline and Dundee United.

Fir Park gaffer Steven Hammell is delighted to have such an experienced head on board to work with number one Liam Kelly and back-up shot-stoppers Aston Oxborough and Matthew Connolly.

He said: "The goalkeeping position is critical to our success.

“Liam Kelly is doing very well but we always want to try and improve the players.

"Our goalkeeper is not just a shot stopper and goal kick taker, they play a huge part in our style.

“We rate Liam really highly and our expectations on goalkeepers are now massive.

"We have a tight group of staff who I trust, but more importantly, are highly skilled, motivated and hungry to improve players.

“Neil adds value and experience to our current coaching staff and I am looking forward to working with him going forward.”

Motherwell are preparing for Premiership action this weekend, with a trip to Ross County on Saturday up next.
