One-time Rangers loan hopeful makes no secret about their ultimate career goal

There was a point when supporters and many behind the scenes at Ibrox were desperate for Malik Tillman to become an official Rangers player.

The USA international had a productive season-long loan in Glasgow during the 2022/23 season, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists from his 43 appearances.

Tillman, 22, dazzled defences at times in a Rangers jersey and it earned the playmaker another loan switch to PSV Eindhoven for the 2023/24 campaign, which was then turned into a permanent deal this summer.

Rangers won a small windfall as part of the transfer that saw parent club Bayern Munich pocket a £12million fee.

Tillman is contracted in the Netherlands until 2028, yet he has admitted during a recent interview that his ultimate goal is to actually return to his former employers one day, having made just seven first team appearances while coming through the Bayern ranks.

Speaking to Bild, Tillman said: "I just wanted to tell you how the transfer [from Bayern to PSV] went in the final instance. And that was all between the clubs - without me being asked about my feelings or wishes.

"That was the only thing that surprised me. But I'm not complaining at all, quite the opposite. Because I knew the contract I had signed and knew what could happen.

(Image: SNS Group) "Of course I would have been happy if Bayern had brought me back, we're talking about an absolute world club here. But I'm also very happy with the transfer to Eindhoven. Here I have a very good, familiar environment that supports and encourages me 100 percent so that I can continue to grow.

"Of course I can't comment on numbers, they're not that important to me! But I don't want to make a secret of it. A return to Bayern is still a dream and a big goal for me."
