Former Rangers and Celtic players are East Kilbride transfer targets for new boss Mick Kennedy

Former Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot and ex-Celtic midfielder Scott Allan could be on their way to East Kilbride next season with the duo among the main transfer targets for new boss Mick Kennedy and his assistant Si Ferry.

Kilby’s new management duo were announced on Saturday, more than a fortnight after Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed the K-Park side wanted them to lead the team next season.

And we now understand 38-year-old defender Broadfoot, who played for Ferry when he was boss at Broomhill this season, has agreed to make the move to K-Park.

It is also hoped a deal can also be struck to bring 31-year-old Allan, currently under contract at Championship side Arbroath, to the Lowland League side in what would be a major signing coup at this level.

Both would bring vast experience to the EK squad with Broadfoot's previous clubs also including Kilmarnock, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and St Mirren, while Allan's career spans spells with Hibs, Dundee and Dundee United.

Also among EK’s signing targets for next term is Queen’s Park midfielder Liam Brown. The 24-year-old has struggled to make a breakthrough at the Spiders, spending the first part of the season on loan at Stenhousemuir before injury curtailed his time there.

Kennedy will tap into his old team as well and as many as eight players in the current Darvel squad are keen on following him to South Lanarkshire.

The 43-year-old will not officially take over at K-Park until the 2022/23 campaign has played out. The Lowland League may be over but Kilby start their Lowland League Cup defence on Saturday away to Gretna, which could extend their season by a few weeks if they are to keep hold of their crown.
