What’s new: Sun Zhigang, former Communist Party chief of Guizhou province in Southwest China, has been expelled from the party for “serious duty-related violations” including meddling with judicial activities and suspected bribery, authorities announced.
Sun allegedly took advantage of his positions to help others get project contracts and subscribe to share offerings, illegally accepting money and gifts in return, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) said in a Monday statement.
The Communist Party anti-graft watchdog said Sun had also intervened and meddled with judicial activities, resisted the investigation, and violated the party’s frugality code by illegally occupying additional housing, seeking special living treatment, and accepting other perks that could have compromised his impartiality in performing his duties.
Sun also engaged in nepotism when appointing officials and used his influence to help his son’s business, the statement said.
Sun’s violations will be “dealt with seriously,” the CCDI said, adding that his suspected criminal offense will be transferred to the prosecuting bodies.
What’s more: The CCDI began investigating Sun in August last year. The 69-year-old retired as vice director of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress in March.
He previously worked in Central China’s Hubei province for over two decades, then had a short stint in Anhui, before moving to Guizhou.
