Mr Pritchard announced his resignation from Cheshire-headquartered Pets at Home in November 2021 before stepping down at the end of May this year.
He first joined the listed retailer in 2011 as commercial director and worked his way up to become CEO in March 2018.
Mr Pritchard has also held roles with the likes of Wilko's, Asda, Sainsbury's and M&S.
AO chairman Geoff Cooper said "We are delighted to welcome Peter as a non-executive director.
"We set out to appoint an individual with suitable experience to continue to develop the board's skill set and Peter brings with him a strong mix of knowledge of consumer-focused businesses, as well as experience of transforming businesses."
