Former One Show host Angela Scanlon revealed as first Strictly Come Dancing 2023 star

Angela Scanlon has been announced as the first contestant for Strictly Come Dancing 2023.

The Irish presenter, 39, who currently hosts BBC2's Your House Made Perfect, is one of the first celebrities to sign up to appear on the popular dance contest which will return for it's 21st series later this year.

BBC bosses are said to be over the moon to have bagged the flame-haired presenter for the new lineup, and they are already hoping that she will go far in the competition.

"It is hard to get the mix right for Strictly every year but producers think that Angela is perfect for it. She is really popular with the BBC's viewers but unlike so many celebrities she doesn't have a dancing background so Strictly fans will be able to go on a really enjoyable journey with her," an insider told.

"Every year the producers like to have a glamorous yet wholesome TV presenter as the fans love them," they added to Mail Online.

Angela first shot to fame fame on the BBC's One Show and back in 2019, she was given her own show which catapulted her into a household name.

The Irish TV presenter was approached for the programme previously, but the timing was never right - until now.

Angela is well-known as a TV host on show's including Robot Wars and The One Show, but before she embarked on her career in television, she had a surprisingly different job.

She was dancer with the O'Shea Irish Dance Company, performing all over the world, but she never realised she could carve out a career in entertainment until she landed huge roles on shows including Sunday Brunch and hosting London Fashion Weekend.

The star would go on to host her own BBC 2 radio show as well as presenting properly makeover series Your Home Made Perfect and its sister show Your Garden Made Perfect, which airs on BBC2 on Thursday evenings.
