Former Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton was installed as the early favourite to become the next permanent Hull City boss after parting company with head coach Shota Arveladze on Friday morning.
The now managerless Tigers, who open the Championship weekend on Friday night by hosting Luton Town, made the move just hours before kick-off at the MKM Stadium. Hull have lost each of their last four matches and return from the international fortnight following back-to-back 3-0 defeats against Stoke City and Swansea City before the break.
It is just over a year since Hughton was relieved of his duties at the City Ground and replaced by current head coach Steve Cooper. The 63-year-old was out of work up until February when he became technical adviser to the Ghana national football team and remains in that role after assisting the Black Stars in qualifying for this year's World Cup.

Hughton was installed as the very early favourite but has since drifted to fifth, according to Oddschecker. Ex-Beşiktaş boss Sergen Yalçın, two former Fenerbahçe managers İsmail Kartal and Ersun Yanal are a trio of Turkish coaches now favoured by the bookies instead.
The one-time Reds boss is still listed as in the running, though, alongside recently departed Derby County interim manager Liam Rosenior and erstwhile Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan, whom Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis parted ways with as Olympiakos manager earlier this month.
