Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs, aged 27, has been convicted on two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty charges in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Tuscaloosa County District Judge sentenced Buggs on July 19 to a year of hard labor, with 60 days to be served immediately. The remaining sentence will be suspended for two years, contingent upon Buggs' behavior.
As part of the sentencing, Buggs is prohibited from possessing or being in the vicinity of firearms, as well as owning dogs or cats. This legal action follows Buggs' second recent arrest in Alabama, where he was charged with domestic violence/burglary and subsequently released on a $5,000 bond, according to records from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
The Kansas City Chiefs released Buggs on June 24, just eight days after his most recent arrest. Buggs, a former player for the University of Alabama, had previously played three seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Detroit Lions for the past two seasons. Throughout his career, Buggs has started 23 games and appeared in 56, accumulating 89 tackles and two sacks. He had recently signed a $1,292,500 contract with Kansas City for the upcoming season.
