Former Newcastle United academy star Reagan Thomson is on the lookout for another new club after being released for the second time this year. The Scottish teenager joined Hamilton Academical in August, but has been let go after three months without making a single senior appearance.
Newcastle saw off competition from Celtic and Rangers to land Thomson from Queens Park in January 2020, in a deal reportedly worth up to £90,000. The young midfielder had already made his first-team breakthough at the age of 16, and also attracted interest from other English clubs.
The Scotland youth international went on to sign his first professional contract on Tyneside, but was allowed to depart this summer at the end of this two-year deal. Thomson signed for Hamilton, and manager John Rankin tipped described the former Newcastle prospect as having 'bags of potential' shortly after his arrival.

However, the club's supporters were never given the opportunity to watch the summer signing in action, and he was released on Monday. Rankin believed it was a decision which allows the 19-year-old to 'try and progress his career' elsewhere.
He told the Daily Record: "Reagan was here and it didn't work out. I'm looking for people who can come in and make an impact straight away and I didn't see that materialising, the way it was going with him.
"So it was best for both parties that we let Reagan go and try to progress his career somewhere else."
Rankin also called Thomson's fitness levels into question. When asked if the teenager was fit enough to play, he answered: "That is somebody else's call now, but he wasn't fit enough, in my eyes, to play here."
