Former Newcastle and Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback scores wonder goal in Championship play-off race

Jack Colback scored a wonder goal for Nottingham Forest in the first-half of their match against Steve Bruce's West Bromwich Albion on Easter Monday. The former Sunderland and Newcastle midfielder struck late in the first half as he hit a volley from out on the left flank which looped over West Brom's David Button and into the far corner of the net.

The goal made it 3-0 to Forest, who were looking to consolidate their position in the top-six as the Championship season approaches its climax. Brennan Johnson had earlier opened the scoring with a penalty, with Ryan Yates heading in from a corner to double the lead. It's unclear whether Colback's goal was intentional, as it appeared that his body position was set up for a cross, which was sliced and fortunately flew beyond the goalkeeper.

Colback came through at Sunderland and made his Premier League debut for the Black Cats, before causing upset at the Stadium of Light by running down his contract and moving to Newcastle on a free transfer. He played over 100 times for the Magpies before being loaned to Forest in 17/18. He joined them permanently in 19/20 on a free transfer and has played 110 times for the Championship side.

This season, he has played primarily as a left wing-back, despite playing the majority of his career as a midfielder. Forest are bidding to return to the Premier League for the first time since the 98/99 season.
