BALTIMORE — Roy McGrath, who served briefly as former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan’s top aide, was fatally shot during his arrest by federal agents in the area of Knoxville, Tennessee, on Monday evening.

McGrath, 53, died at a hospital, William Brennan, an attorney for McGrath’s wife, told The Baltimore Sun. Brennan declined further comment.

In a statement, McGrath’s attorney, Joseph Murtha, said he was incredibly saddened by the loss of McGrath’s life and the “terrible tragedy that has unfolded over the past three weeks.”
