Former Man United striker sends Erik ten Hag warning about transfer target Randal Kolo Muani

Former striker Louis Saha has warned Manchester United that Eintracht Frankfurt ace Randal Kolo Muani may not necessarily guarantee them the goals that they are looking for amid their interest in his signature.

United have made signing a striker their top priority ahead of this summer's transfer window officially opening for business on Wednesday. The Reds lacked a reliable out-and-out No.9 this season and manager Erik ten Hag has made it his mission to solve that particular problem.

The Dutchman, as revealed by the Manchester Evening News back in March, has pinpointed Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane as his preferred target. Sources say that Ten Hag is "obsessed" with the England captain, but United are operating under the assumption that Spurs will not sell the 29-year-old this summer.

However, United are keeping their options open and have drawn up a shortlist of back-up options, a list that includes Kolo Muani. The Frenchman, who joined Frankfurt from Nantes last summer, enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign in Germany, scoring 23 goals and grabbing 17 assists in all competitions.

He also featured in France's World Cup campaign and scored their second goal in their 2-0 semi-final win over Morocco. With all of that in mind, it is hardly surprising that a plethora of clubs are keeping a watchful eye on the forward, who scored 15 Bundesliga goals this season.

"Randal Kolo Muani has different type of qualities to Harry Kane and he's still young," Saha told Betway. "But Kolo Muani has a hunger to always score goals, keeps himself busy on the pitch and can be very versatile.

"He's a player who the Manchester United players will find easy to play with because he's very smart in the way he plays. Kolo Muani won't have any issues with the fitness or physicality needed in the Premier League, he can run all day and press high like we've seen with Wout Weghorst.

"He's shown it for France with Kylian Mbappe, they connected instantly."

United, following a season of progression this time around, will have ambitions of continuing on an upward trajectory next season. But if their goal is to challenge for the Premier League title, Saha has hinted that they may need a striker with a better goalscoring pedigree than Kolo Muani.

The former United striker added: "I'm sure Manchester United's strategy is to win or challenge for the Premier League title, and if they want to do that then they need guaranteed goals.

"There are very few players who can provide those guarantees, and there are players like Kolo Muani who are in the tier just below who would improve the quality of the squad but not guarantee goals."
