Andy Robertson says that the Manchester City players cannot be held accountable for the actions of their club, after a report stated that they have been found guilty on almost all of the 115 charges relating to breaches of financial regulations.
Robertson’s former club were runners up to City in 2013/14, one of the seasons where City have reportedly been found to have broken Premier League rules, but the Scotland captain – who enjoyed regular battles for the title with City during his nine-year spell at Anfield – says that the players proved on the pitch that they were worthy winners.
“I think you can hear the shock in my voice, I haven’t actually seen the news,” Robertson said when told of the developing story as he prepares for Scotland’s Nations League match in Slovenia.
“The case has obviously been going on [for a while]. For me, the [Man City] players showed they were good enough on the pitch.
“I don’t know too much about the charges and stuff like that. But they had an incredible team, one that I loved battling against.
“I don’t think when it comes to these things that players are ever to blame.
“That’s all I can focus on.”
